Your driver-guide builds the loop around what you want to see. A classic day: the sacred banyan tree of Mahatsinjo, a working ylang-ylang distillery where Nosy Be's perfume is steam-extracted, a swim under a waterfall, and the eleven crater lakes from the top of Mont Passot — timed so you catch the sunset over the Mozambique Channel before heading home.
Because the vehicle is private, the pace is entirely yours: linger at a market, stop for photos anywhere, or skip a site to spend longer at another. The price is per couple; ask us for rates for larger groups or families.
Most people only ever see the coast. This 4×4 day turns inland and climbs into the green, hilly middle of the island — past ylang-ylang plantations and hilltop hamlets, up to the crater lakes and the sunset viewpoint that most visitors miss. It is the trip we recommend for anyone who wants to understand Nosy Be, not just swim off it.
Mont Passot is the highest point on Nosy Be, and from the top the whole archipelago opens up beneath you — a scatter of islands on a bright sea. Cupped in the hills around it lie a string of deep crater lakes, drowned volcanic vents ringed by forest. Several are sacred to the local families, home to sacred crocodiles and protected by fady, the traditional taboos: no swimming, no pointing, no pork by the water. We time the day so you reach Mont Passot for the last hour of light — the reason it is on almost every 'best of Nosy Be' list. The sun slides down over the outer islands, the crater lakes below turn to copper and then to silver, and for a few minutes the whole west coast glows. Bring a camera; it earns its reputation.
Down in a fold of the forest, out of the heat, a waterfall slips over a wall of black rock hung with ferns into a clear green pool. It is a sacred place for the villages nearby, so we visit quietly and follow our guide's lead — but it is also simply beautiful, and wonderfully cool after the dusty track. In the wet months the falls run full; in the dry season they narrow to silver threads through the moss.
The day also makes room for the slower residents. At a reserve near Hell-Ville you meet Aldabra giant tortoises — huge, unhurried, some of them older than anyone watching — and can walk among them as they graze. Along the way we stop wherever the island invites it: a plantation heavy with the scent of ylang-ylang, a village market, a viewpoint over the fields and the sea. It is an easy, generous day, and it ties the whole island together.

Nosy Be is small — legs between stops are mostly 15–30 minutes, some on bumpy tracks (that's what the 4×4 is for).

Reserve online through our contact form — no payment, card details or transfer are needed to hold a date. For some tours we ask for a deposit the day before departure, paid in cash to your guide when you meet. Everything else is paid to your guide on the day of the tour, in cash (EUR, USD or MGA) or by mobile money. We never ask for online payments or bank transfers — if anyone contacts you claiming to be us and asks for one, it is not us.
200 € for the vehicle, not per person, so the cost is shared by everyone in the car. You pay your guide on the day of the tour, in cash or by mobile money — nothing is charged when you reserve.
